The Muir Woods Shuttle is shrinking. Shoreline Highway may feel it.

What happened: Marin Transit presented its annual Muir Woods Shuttle evaluation to its board of directors this week. The report covers 2025 performance and announces changes for the current season.

What the numbers show: The shuttle completed 89 days of service in 2025, eight fewer than planned. The federal government shutdown closed Muir Woods in October, cutting the season short. Ridership fell 12% to 38,488 trips. That's less than half the 84,771 trips recorded in 2022, the program's post-pandemic peak. Total program cost was $907,405. Marin Transit's share was capped at $400,000 under its cost-sharing agreement with the National Park Service, which covered the remainder.
