What's happening: The Mill Valley Planning Commission voted Monday night to recommend approval of a plan to convert the outdoor nursery yard behind the Eggers Plaza commercial center into three single-family home sites. The vote sends the project to City Council, which must approve a General Plan Amendment and zoning change before any homes can be built.
The parcels in question sit behind the existing commercial building at 401 Miller Avenue, fronting Sycamore Avenue. Owner Robert Mellett, represented by architect Michael Heacock, wants to split the 0.69-acre nursery yard into three residential lots and consolidate three adjacent commercial parcels into one. All three lots would be narrower than city minimums but within the existing neighborhood pattern.

What's at stake: The application does not affect the commercial building or its current tenants, which include Sol Food, Family Cuts and Simple Mills.
