What's happening: Arts and Recreation Director Ashley Howe brought bocce courts to Wednesday's meeting as a pure informational item: no site, no funding, no vote on the table. Commissioners spent a few minutes discussing the idea, several expressing enthusiasm for moving forward.
Commissioner Andrew Smith called the idea "super comprehensive and really exciting" and pushed for a feasibility study, fundraising, and site scouting to start soon. Commissioner Emmet Austin didn't hold back either. "I'm so fired up and excited about this," he said, before pitching pétanque, bocce's French cousin, as a natural companion sport for the same courts. "Bastille Day celebration playing pétanque, I think, would be a hit," he said.
