What's happening: The city issued 138 building permits in August covering $15,352,486.28 in construction and renovation work, according to the city's monthly permit activity report, with the city collecting $588,917.65 in fees. That's the highest monthly valuation the Briefing has tracked all year, ahead of April's previous high of $14.3 million.
Behind the numbers: August followed a quiet July, when 136 permits totaled $9,424,237.19 and no single project broke $2.5 million. August reversed that: three separate permits topped $2.5 million each, together accounting for just over half the month's total valuation. Against June's $11.6 million and July's $9.4 million, August's number is a jump, not a continuation. The year-to-date total now stands at $79,782,583.71 across 1,006 permits.
