Mill Valley ranks 4th in Marin for emergency alert signups - the goal is 90% by 2030

Mill Valley's Emergency Preparedness Commission engaged residents at 14 community events in 2025, from the Little League Parade to Winterfest, according to the Emergency Preparedness Commission Annual Report 2025 which will be presented to City Council on Monday.

A Briefing review of AlertMarin enrollment data shows Mill Valley ranks fourth among Marin jurisdictions, with 58.4% of households subscribed to the county's emergency notification system. More than four in ten Mill Valley households have no SMS or email alert coverage during a wildfire, flood or other disaster. The commission has identified a goal of 90% household enrollment by 2030.

What's happening: Commissioners held approximately 784 emergency preparedness conversations with residents in 2025, according to the report, and as of early 2026, 3,347 Mill Valley households are enrolled in AlertMarin. The commission flagged two groups as hardest to reach: residents of multi-unit properties, where only 30.5% of buildings have at least one enrolled household, and older and underserved residents.
