Marin Transit is growing. Golden Gate Transit is not.

The good news first: If you take the bus around Marin, it is working better than it ever has. Marin Transit's local fixed route system carried 3.35 million trips in the last fiscal year, 111% of pre-COVID ridership. The system has fully recovered and is outperforming every peer agency in the Bay Area. The national average for bus recovery is 77%.

Route 17, which runs from Sausalito through Mill Valley to San Rafael, carried 225,810 passengers last year, up 6% from the year before. Across the full system, the average subsidy per passenger fell to $11.38 from $12.12 the year before. More riders, lower cost per trip.
