What’s happening: The Marin County Parks and Open Space Commission voted unanimously Thursday to recommend that the Open Space District Board of Directors consider an ordinance allowing Class 1 e-bikes on preserve fire roads and trails where conventional bikes are already permitted. Districtwide, staff said bikes are allowed on all 99 miles of fire roads and about 27 of 81 miles of trails.
The staff proposal also keeps Class 2 and Class 3 e-bikes banned. Until the board acts, staff said, all e-bikes remain prohibited in the preserves except as mobility devices for people with disabilities.
