City approves removal of heritage redwood damaging a Throckmorton Avenue home
Mill Valley's Zoning Administrator approved the removal of a protected coast redwood this week after two arborists and a decade of inspection reports concluded the tree was destroying the foundation of an 1894 home at 448 Throckmorton Avenue.

What's happening: The tree, a 65-foot heritage redwood with a 46-inch trunk, sits three feet from the home's foundation. According to arborist reports submitted with the permit application, its root system has cracked the basement wall, lifted the back deck and jammed the egress doors, and the basement floods during rain.
