What's happening: According to a staff report from Arts and Recreation Deputy Director Jay Ingram, the Parks and Recreation Commission is scheduled to consider Wednesday whether to recommend that City Council approve a request for qualifications (RFQ) process for the Boyle Park tennis and pickleball concession. Per the city's RFQ schedule, if the commission recommends the process, Council would vote August 17 on issuing it, with responses due September 16.

The context: The RFQ states that Chris Reiff has managed the Boyle Park courts since 1988, most recently under an agreement dating to 1995, and that he is retiring at the end of October. The same document states the city has contracted out day-to-day operations at the courts since at least 1979, and that pickleball instruction and organized play are already part of the services the city contracts for under the current agreement, alongside tennis.
The Marin Independent Journal reported in 2015 that Reiff already worked through one major renovation: a six-year community campaign led by Wendy Crowe raised $256,000 toward court repairs. The city separately committed $501,600 in public funding, and hired a contractor for approximately $880,000 to resurface courts that had become too cracked to repair, some dating to the 1930s.
