What's happening: The Mill Valley School District broke ground Thursday on the long-awaited middle school renovation, adopted a balanced 2026-27 budget, and set the first-year Measure E parcel tax rate - all against the backdrop of a vote count showing roughly 75% of ballots in favor of the measure, according to results posted by the Marin County Elections Department.

Why it matters: The budget projects revenues of $62.2 million against expenditures of $62.1 million, a surplus of roughly $133,000, with reserves at 21.4%. Three new transitional kindergarten classrooms will be added next year, funded in part by Kiddo!, which continues to support counselors and engineering programs at $2.5 million. The middle school renovation is funded by Measure G.

The context: The board voted unanimously to set the Measure E parcel tax rate at $1,754 per parcel for 2026-27. That figure takes effect pending certification of Measure E, expected no earlier than June 26.
